Jason Holley — March of Mugs 2024

Jason Holley makes both sculptural and functional work. He lives and works in Twillingate, Newfoundland.

This year Jason has sent us 18 of his hand-built and marbled "Landwash" mugs.

The landwash is that bit of shore between the low and high tide mark.  It is where the best treasures can be found.  Driftwood, fascinating rocks, scraps of rusted metal.. . So many of these treasures find their way into Jason’s pockets, it’s amazing he ever makes it home.

Combining many different clay bodies into patterned blocks, Jason then slices and hand-builds the pots, carving them to reveal unique patterns.  The texture and patterns remind him of driftwood grain and beach rocks.  No two blocks are the same, so each batch is a surprise.  Like every visit to the shores of Twillingate, you never know what you might see.

Jason's work will appear here when the show opens on Sunday March 17th at 1:30 p.m. NDT (noon Eastern).
