Alexis Templeton — Wild Labrador Clay — Feast of Pottery 2022

Local wild clay contains iron, and fired on its own, would have the texture of a terra cotta flower pot.  Alexis has been painting this earthenware clay onto the surface of this porcelain place setting and firing the pieces in the high temperature, slow cool firing profile of crystalline glazes – resulting in a lovely shimmer from the iron in the clay.
For her local wild clay series, Alexis was gifted this clay from Nain, in Nunatsiavut territory.

Alexis Templeton is a Newfoundland potter celebrated for her functional ceramic work finished in beautiful and distinctive glazes. Inspired by the natural heritage of her home province, Alexis has developed several signature glaze styles and designs during a career of more than three decades. She draws on both her artist’s eye and her technical knowledge in her continuing exploration of how colour and form, chemistry and serendipity, can yield gorgeous ceramic pieces suitable for your table or your walls.
