Heather Sproat — Cherry Blossom — Feast of Pottery 2022

Heather Sproat lives in Moncton, New Brunswick

Heather Sproat received her BFA from the University of Lethbridge majoring in Photographic Arts. In 2005 she moved to the Maritimes and went on to take Production Pottery courses at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.

The cherry blossoms on the pieces in this place setting are an interesting transfer technique. Heather paints the cherry blossoms on newsprint, paints white slip on top of the cherry blossoms and then transfers the image by wrapping the paper around the pot. Once the slip has dried somewhat, she carves more details into the clay.
