Beach sand from Sandy Point Beach, Lawn, Newfoundland was swirled into the porcelain clay as it was thrown on the wheel. 

The cup has been glazed with a clear glaze to showcase the sand. The rim is glazed with a narrow band of white crystalline glaze which is most apparent in the way it streaks through the clear blaze as it runs down the side of the cup
