Local wild clay contains iron, and fired on its own, would have the texture of a terra cotta flower pot. Alexis has been painting this earthenware clay onto the surface of this porcelain place setting and firing the pieces in the high temperature, slow cool firing profile of crystalline glazes – resulting in a lovely shimmer from the iron in the clay.
For her local wild clay series, Alexis was gifted this clay from Nain, in Nunatsiavut territory.
Approximately 26 centimetres in diameter.
