This mug has had black beach sand from Burgeo, Newfoundland swirled through the clay as the piece was thrown on the wheel. The sand collected from this beach is magnetic from high iron content, giving a very dark and sometimes even metallic look.
Alexis' signature crystalline glaze is running on the rim of this mug. The inside and outside walls are covered in clear glaze to emphasize the beach sand.
The texture of the sand can be felt through the glaze.
